What is the Big Learner Relay for Children in Need?
On BBC Children in Need night driving instructor Louise Walsh had a big idea. She wondered what driving schools around the country could do to help Children in Need while teaching learner drivers. That was the moment the BLR (Big Learner Relay) was born.
Starting with big dreams but small expectations she rallied troops across the country to create a relay of driving lessons passing a charity headboard between them. By the end of the first event the relay had raised over £89,000! Far exceeding anybodies wildest dreams! From that moment we were hooked, and have continued to offer full support every year since.

How do Better Driver Training get involved?
We do everything we can, and love every minute of it!
Chris Bensted and Ian Brett are the official 'Pudcasters' for the BLR. Delivering regular updates and insights as the relay makes its way around the country. This year this will include a day in Jersey and a return visit to the instructors in Northern Ireland.
Chris is also the official Big Learner Relay lyricist, providing special BLR lyrics every year to a well known song. Since 2017 he has arranged and recorded with the BLR Singers to bring everyone together in musical synchronicity.... Well, we try!
The Better Driver Trainers spot up their cars, attend multiple relay legs and raise money from pupil, friend, family and business donations during the event.
